Oil Price History

~dissembled and *smashingpumpkins86 were briefly chatting about gas prices on Sunday. Toni, i think, mentioned something about what the price of gas was duing the Clinton administration. So, today, just on a random thought, i went out to see if i could find a history of oil prices to see what the price of a barrel of oil was back when Mr. Clinton was penetrating interns with Cuban cigars.

If you look at the chart, you can see that oil prices were very low during his administration. They hit a fourty year low just before the end of his term.

Gas Price History

This shows the average gas prices for a gallon of regular unleaded from 1949 to 2003. Prices are not the highest they have ever been but, they were at their lowest during the Clinton administration. They were at their highest during another Republican's administration; Ronald Reagan.

What does this mean? To me, it means that there are signs of definite price gouging by the oil companies. For the Midwest United States, the average price of gas right now is $1.54. Down the street from my house, at the local station i'm paying $1.92, $0.42 cents more than the average. The oil companies need to be regulated.

Right now, the oil company CEO's are being led through investigative committees to examine price gouging. Go to here - [link] and go to here - [link]

Send an e-mail to your representatives and senators with support and expansion of these investigative committees. i just wrote mine. Flex your rights and do the same.

What if your entire reason for trying in this world was ripped away from you without warning and you were left cold, dry, and lonely in the middle of nowhere in a place you really don't want to be?

Considering I'm the son of a gas station manager(social representative, flak manager) I know all of this and advocate the spreading of indepth information of such! Sihn for president 2008! :flagus:

You live in St. Louis right? I'm about six hours away from you (not far, when you consider the chart and the distances averaged into it), and gas here is still at roughly $2.07. The cheapest place to get gas in the town that I live in is actually a truck stop about a mile out of town, it's $1.99 there. yikes.

the cheapest gas price I've seen driving around is $1.87. I went "whoa!" then thought, that's so sad that a high price like that can make my day. Hydrogen cars all the way!

Gas is $2.33 here(MA), by the way.

Gas here is $1.46 per litre. Thats LITRE. Not gallon.
But yes I would say there is something dodgy going on there.
